Senior Congress Leader and former union minister Vidya Charan Shukla died today in a Gurgaon hospital after battling injuries sustained in a deadly naxal attack on a convoy of party leaders a fortnight ago in Chhattisgarh. Shukla (84) died at 14:38 hours, said Yatin Mehta, Chairman of Institute of Critical Care and Anaesthesiology in the Medanta Medicity Hospital in nearby Gurgaon. He said that Shukla developed multi-organ failure. Severe bullet injury and old age were major risk factors in his case, Mehta said. Shukla is survived by wife and three daughters.
